Self-Directed Learning Journey
Self-Directed Learning Journey
Introduction
My goal for my self-directed learning journey was to build my computer science skills with basic coding elements. The course I explored was "Elementary Game Design" provided by Code.org. This course was very helpful as it broke down the basics of coding, allowed for creativity and implementation of digital tools. I enjoyed taking this course to enhance my coding abilities and plan on sharing my educational journey with my students and colleagues.
With computer science and other STEM related fields being more in demand than ever before, coding skills are well sought out in the work field. Code.org is a nonprofit organization doing a fantastic job meeting students where they are at various skill levels in order to continue building their digital tools and open brighter doors for their future.
This module is intended to introduce the basics of creating and coding online games. It involves animating sprites, making them interactive as well as introducing variables that modify elements like score taking. With other focuses such as player movement, obstacles and conditions this module is a great course that fosters creativity and enables students to think cognitively.
